 Shall We Play a Game?

Presenter – Lisa Byrd

While I teach high school, any of these activities can be altered to use with your students. Sometimes no skill level is necessary; students are learning something. Sometimes knowledge of material is needed; assessment is given. Sometimes critical and quick thinking are needed; the puzzles get harder as we do them. I want the students to have fun and leave my class remembering that fun and connecting it to the material we do together. I think teachers are afraid to put fun in lessons. We have so much pressure on us and we sacrifice enjoyment for curriculum standards. Well, I believe you can do both. You can motivate students to learn through puzzlement. I hope that each educator that comes to my session can take back that sense of fun and how to put fun in their lessons. Any teacher can take a worksheet and turn it into a scavenger hunt. I want to give those teachers a way to do it too.
